AVG Internet Security Review

AVG internet protection offers a comprehensive set of tools to protect your computer. It is however, struggling to stand out from the competition. The smart scan is great and checks for several issues, including unsafe browser extensions as well as unsecure web pages that can be used as gateways to malware. However, it falls short of rival products in other areas like detecting fake websites that try to steal your details.

The program is simple to install and use with an easy interface that looks fantastic on any device and performs great regardless of whether you have a touchscreen or not. The five index protections included in the complete package – Computer, Web & Emails, Hacker attacks, Privacy and Payments – are grouped into simple categories. These are also divided into sub-categories such as password protection and webcam protection.

You can upgrade to premium support for your phone or TuneUp tools for a fee for additional features. There’s a version that has an VPN that is included at an additional cost.

The upselling is quite aggressive and, regardless of which plan you select, certain features are not available unless you upgrade to a higher-tier product. If you decide to go with the free version of AVG Internet Security, you will be encouraged to install Google Chrome or AVG SafePrice. Always read the terms and conditions of any software you download, because you may end up with a package with a lower capability than you originally expected.
